Movable garden
Contemporary Glass Jewellery
Aim
To create a new glass jewellery that mades innovative use of glass & enamel, better design strategies, more efficient working processes and technologies.
Concept
To create a glass jewellery which can strike a feeling of nature, to remind people a sense of relaxation and well-being, as well as a life style of LOHAS.
Objective
Combine glass with metal mash, to create different combinations, also using melting glass to join metal instead of the traditional soldering and Enamel.
Specifically
1. To create 26 brooches (18 brooches, 8 rings), finished piece!
2. Explore mash, glass and enamel, no more experiment, just make as much as I can, select the best ones.
3. To make glass flower and frame more harmonized, at this moment the glass element and frame work are two awkward septate combination not only visually but also conceptually. No more Eiffel Tower frame, just structure frame which can fit glass elements. Because normal silver frame can only expose my short come and didn't make the work more convincing either.
4. To make brooch fitting as well as object itself
5. Evaluate the new pieces whether they have been well made technically and aesthetically)

Potential piece Natalie and Roger picked out for my design, develop this with glass element and mesh to generate a collection of brooches.
Day 1 after assessment
Tuesday:
Bend cut and form metal mash to organic shape frame
Cutting & forming
Spray on enamel
Make the metal mash stronger and better shaped
Frame 1, 2, 3
Next enamel organic frame with glass flowers
Some small elements
And also round shape of brooches
State the research problem:
To develop current design which featuring flower elements and glass making techniques
To develop my design aesthetically and technically to be advanced
Proposal solution:
Evaluate the new pieces (whether they have been well made technically and aesthetically)
For making: brooch fitting, shape, combination, colour, texture, structure, weight, efficiency
For design: serve the concept, sequence of development, rationale of my proposed study and whether clearly indicate why it is worth doing.
Day 2
Conceptually:
What do i want to explain through my jewellery, only mimic the shape the garden and flow are way lower then the level of MA,
Actually, the reason I pick the theme of garden is I really want to explain the feeling of aspiration! The aspiration of nature life, now days people tend to stay with machine, eat junk food fast food, create bubble in economy, lie in order to make money, make nuclear weapon to keep pace.
I want my jewellery to give people a symbol of original, a sign of life, a traces of life. Life is too short, compare with the whole world, we are nothing but a small part of life, just like the flow or plant on the ground, fragile but staunch, they grow and squeeze even in the hardest and driest rocket hole. Meanwhile, life is short for plant and for you and me, be tough as a smallest life as we can barely see, be humble and relax because we are just a small element part of the nature.
Through the glass jewelry organic and abstract form to express the irregular and oddity nature, the color of transparent glass express the smallness and fragility of life, blossom and fall presented in the same jewelry, reflecting the traces of the life and its fleeting, to remind people cherishing and reflect on the meaning of life.
Technically:
Analysed small pieces, get rid of the rough edges!!
Enamel
Consider the brooch pin how to connect them considerately and reasonably.
The colour come form Claude Monet
Day 3
Conceptually clean up the original idea of this jewellery collection.
The regular and irregular of the stone, avoid the simple beauty of flowers!
For the design part:
Finish the rest piece of yesterday
1, don't have the problem of stinging edge
2, way more productive
3, better control with the mash and enamel
About style: more abstract than before, meanwhile more interesting, the other more subtle of reflecting the Organic forms
About Color: avoid using of natural elements directly, from Monet's paintings and draw the breath of life, spirituality, and not mechanically.
About Material: fine mesh fabric features a seemingly soft, hard and forming later in the Enamel, very good expression of the Concept of the hard and weird of rocks.
Fabric that was done to identify the small elements used in current design
At the same time, have to think about how to attach these small elements with the body. Cold enamel?Resin? Not only glue or sew them. Consider the brooch pin! It should be suitable for the jewellery themselves.
Have to consider
where should the glass part be?!
Problem solving:
Brooch fitting!!
Use glass instead of soldering technique
Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany under the bridge
Stone and waterfalls gave me great inspiration!
Day 4
Technically, solid inside
Focus on one colour or 2
Wearable
Pick favourite 3, develop father
What i did is naturally, not control
Photo continue:
Finishing the pin part of the rest pieces
Saturday and Sunday: photograph, drawing
Monday: Add glass part!
Day 5
Photograph:
colour and natural structures
Day 6
Add glass elements:
Brooch 5cm * 8cm
copper mesh, glass test tube, enamel
Brooch 5.5cm * 5.5cm * 3cm

This stage, thinking the details, details details!!!
Good work comes from open-mindedness and intuition - the confidence to rely on personal judgement backed up by experimentation and visual research - rather than doggedly following a preconceived idea.
Think my work as a whole, associated with artist statement.Whether I have my distinct personality in my work, no matter what material I choose, what structure I create.
